| Winners of the Conduit Video Contest! |
|
|
So you built a great toolbar, right? Now it's time to promote it and get more downloads and nothing like a cool video to help you do it! We thought you might like some inspiration so Conduit invited web publishers to submit videos about their community toolbars. We have selected the best submissions and here are the winners:
|
Best overall YouTube videos:
|
1st PLACE: Metal Radio Toolbar This toolbar was created for metal music fans, and both the graphics and the music in this video reflect that. The publisher keeps it simple, highlighting the important components of the toolbar at a pace that keeps it interesting and is easy to follow.
2nd PLACE: Shqiptaret Toolbar This toolbar was created for the Albanian community. It took a different approach to highlight the components in the toolbar – breaking them down to individual parts but threading them together with interesting graphical elements. It's also short and to the point.
|
 |
3rd PLACE: Marc Bolan Live Toolbar - This toolbar is about one specific musician (rather than a type of music), and highlights the different ways you can learn about and listen to Marc Bolan.
|
|
Editor's Highlights: These videos did not qualify for a prize, but we still thought they were great examples.
- FM India TV Toolbar - The publisher walks the user through the different components of the toolbar and shows how to use them. Using bold notes and no spoken language makes it easy to follow and universal.
- Crystal Palace Fan Club Toolbar - This video promotes the ultimate community toolbar for the Crystal Palace football club fans. it has a real podcast of a game playing as the background of the video – thus highlighting a great feature of the toolbar and speaks to its community.
- Best graphics: Internet-Radio Toolbar - professional video, great toolbar!
- Most playful: Go Smile Toolbar - This community toolbar was created by a fan of the GoPets network. a cute character from the community walks the users through the demo.
- Most views: Live TV Media Toolbar - This publisher managed to attract over 25,000 people to watch its YouTube video!

| Promoting Your Community Toolbar Through Social Media |
 |
Social media websites offer some really effective, free opportunities for you to promote your toolbar. According to Wikipedia, social media is all about "Internet-based tools for sharing and discussing information". |
Examples include social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook, blogs, and media sharing sites like YouTube and Flickr where anyone can post their videos or photos and others can share/comment. Here is a handy tool that can help you decide which social media outlet might work best for you. You can learn more about social networks on the Conduit Forum. |

Sparklebox on YouTube - Sparklebox is a website full of teaching resources. They built a toolbar and then created a video on YouTube to promote it. Check it out.
Is a video on YouTube right for you? Consider this:
- A short video clip is usually more engaging than just words on paper.
- Exposure on sites other than your own brings new traffic and awareness.
- Using the right tag will bring the page up in search results.
- Once posted on YouTube, the video can be linked to and promoted on other sites.
- The viral effect – people are likely to forward interesting videos on to their friends.

|
Pirate Radio on Facebook – Facebook and MySpace are also great spots to promote your toolbar. Pirate Radio's group on Facebook has close to 3000 members. The publisher often sends updates to the members and encourages them to use different toolbar features such as podcasts and radio.
According to Pirates Radio, here are the benefits of promoting their toolbar on Facebook:
- new traffic and awareness
- Effective viral effect

Submitatonce blog and Twitter - Submitatonce is a Website Promotion & Traffic Blog. Wikipedia defines a blog (a contraction of the term "Web log") as a website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video.
The benefits of maintaining a blog:
 |
- Blogs give you an increased presence on major search engines, like Yahoo! and Google. A well-written, routinely updated, keyword-oriented blog can enhance your chances of scoring high rankings on search engine return pages.
- Blogs provide a way for you to speak directly, openly and honestly with your customer/community/reader.
|
SubmitatOnce also promotes its own blog on Twitter, a micro-blogging network (each update is limited to 140 characters). As seen here, our blogger designed a background to the twitter account promoting the toolbar!
Enjoy!
