Your Website on Your Toolbar

Everything users can do on your website, they can do on your community toolbar. In this issue, we'll share some concrete ways you can make this happen. Read about carrying through your branding to your toolbar, and check out some examples of Conduit publishers who have successfully extended their website business to their toolbar.
Make Toolbar Branding Work for You
If you are like most small business owners, you race from task to task with little time to consider your company brand. What's a company brand? To paraphrase Wikipedia, it's a "collection of symbols, experiences and associations connected with a product or service."
No matter how small your organization, it can benefit from establishing and maintaining a consistent brand. So what should you do first?
Make sure that the names and design elements of your company and products are consistent on your toolbar and the rest of your marketing tools. Carry through the look and feel of your website to your toolbar's logo and custom icons.
Here are two great examples of companies whose toolbars reflect the branding on their website:
  • Duffy community toolbar: Universal Music built a toolbar for recording artist Duffy that includes the best material from her official website. It maintains the black-and-white look and feel of the site, and its icons include music and video symbols and even the official image of Duffy herself.

  • 2pass community toolbar: Good branding isn't just for big companies. Check out this toolbar by 2pass, providers of training materials for drivers in the U.K. It uses icons that are consistent with the website's navigation boxes and preserves the eye-catching color palette.

Playing Media Files Right from the Browser
Webteh has integrated its BS.Player global media player software onto a community toolbar. The BS.Player Control Bar enables users to play back any audio or video file type directly from their browser.
Playing Media Files
It's a multitasker's dream: users can now play multimedia files while surfing the Web, e-mailing, playing games, etc., all without switching applications. The toolbar also has a subtitle search for movies and TV in 55 languages and access to more than 3,400 games.
"Thanks to Conduit, we have been able to create a free version of BS.Player software and distribute it easily around the world," said Matjaz Kurincic, CEO at Webteh. "The Conduit platform...made it easy for us to integrate our software into a browser add-on. For the first time, we have a direct channel to communicate with our users."
RetailMeNot Puts Its Business Model on a Toolbar
The RetailMeNot website offers online coupon codes and printable coupons from thousands of retailers. The RetailMeNot community toolbar (for IE and FF) can automatically detect when coupons are available on a website, making it a terrific tool for online shoppers.
Retail Me Not Toolbar
In a click, shoppers can see all the coupons, share a coupon code that they have used successfully, and view the most recently added coupons.
The result? Community toolbar users are RetailMeNot's best customers! They "see 50% more site pages than our standard users, stay for 50% longer, and have a 20% lower bounce rate."
