Call them web gadgets or call them widgets--no matter what name you use, gadgets are the ultimate addition to your community toolbar and a great way to syndicate your content in a few easy steps. In this edition of the ConduiTimes, you'll find our best tips about gadgets, including our special list of the Top 10 Gadgets we know your subscribers will love.


Gadgets and your community toolbar

Web gadgets (or widgets) are third-party snippets of HTML that can be easily embedded in the code of any web page (such as a blog or website). A gadget can contain any content, including games, news, videos, online applications or anything else, and it can be integrated as part of the web page.

So what's so great about gadgets? They are absolutely the best way to add fresh, engaging content to your online properties and to spice up static pages. They make it easy to give your site visitors the best and coolest that the Web has to offer--without asking them to leave your website, and without losing their valuable attention.

And now for the kicker: your community toolbar is 100% gadget compatible! You can easily add gadgets in a click with the content and applications you choose. And since the gadgets can be displayed in a floating window, your toolbar subscribers can drag them all over the browser window (or desktop), or minimize them when they want. Your subscribers can also add gadgets on their own by clicking the Gadgets link in the Main Menu (the drop-down menu next to your community toolbar's logo).

To add a gadget: In the Toolbar tab of the Control Panel, click on Gadget Button. You can then either pick one from the Gadgets Library, or click on Custom Gadget to add any other gadget (by inserting either an external URL or embeddable HTML code).

To add a Gadgets menu: In the Toolbar tab, click on Predefined Gadgets Menu to add a drop-down menu of 20 cool gadgets that we hand-picked for you. You can edit and customize the predefined list at any time.
